Genetic variability for different quantitative characters in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.)

چکیده

The study was initiated to generate genetic information on important yield contributing characters of sweet potato genotypes maintained in Chhattisgarh. Twenty eight potatoes (Ipomea batatas L.)  were evaluated estimate the variability for different characters. experiment conducted using a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. parameters studied. Analysis variance showed significant variation among all tested highest tuber recorded genotype Indira Naveen (27.84 t/ha) which followed by TSP-16-8 (25.42 t/ha), Madhur (25.26 Sree Bhadhara (24.81 and Rethana (24.48 t/ha). Diameter tubers, vine length, internode number tubers per plant genotypic phenotypic variation. High heritability observed viz., dry matter starch, TSS weight plant, diameter foliage, length harvest index, yield. Variability weight, present could be used improvement potato. Anthocyanins in Purple Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Varieties

Anthocyanins from purple sweet potatoes can serve as natural colorants due to their high heat and light stability and are commonly used in juices, alcoholic beverages, jams, confectioneries, bread, snacks and noodles. There are several commercially available varieties of purple sweet potatoes, which can vary in storage root size, shape, and color. During the last decade sweet potato cultivars w...

Synergistic interactions of begomoviruses with Sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus (genus Crinivirus) in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.).

Three hundred and ninety-four sweet potato accessions from Latin America and East Africa were screened by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of begomoviruses, and 46 were found to be positive. All were symptomless in sweet potato and generated leaf curling and/or chlorosis in Ipomoea setosa. The five most divergent isolates, based on complete genome sequences, were used to study i...

Anti-ulcer activity of Ipomoea batatas tubers (sweet potato)

Background: Peptic ulcers occur in that part of the gastrointestinal tract which is exposed to gastric acid and pepsin, i.e., the stomach and duodenum. Gastric and duodenal ulcers are common pathologies that may be induced by a variety of factors such as stress, smoking and noxious agents including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ipomoea batatas tubers (sweet potato) contain ample amount...

Changes in caffeic acid derivatives in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) during cooking and processing.

There was an obvious decrease in caffeic acid derivatives during the boiling of cube-shaped blocks of sweet potatoes. They also decreased in a mixture of freeze-dried sweet-potato powder and water maintained at room temperature. Ascorbic acid prevented the decrease, supporting the occurrence of an enzyme reaction with polyphenol oxidase (PPO). 5-O-Caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA, "3-O-caffeoylquinic...

H+‐pyrophosphatase IbVP1 promotes efficient iron use in sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.]

Iron (Fe) deficiency is one of the most common micronutrient deficiencies limiting crop production globally, especially in arid regions because of decreased availability of iron in alkaline soils. Sweet potato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.] grows well in arid regions and is tolerant to Fe deficiency. Here, we report that the transcription of type I H+ -pyrophosphatase (H+ -PPase) gene IbVP1 in swe...
